Breaking News: Kaduna Assembly Calls for Probe into Former Governor El-Rufai Over Alleged Misconduct

135

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has called for an investigation into former Governor Nasir El-Rufai following allegations of abuse of office and financial misconduct.

This decision comes in the wake of a report submitted by an ad-hoc committee tasked with examining loans, grants, and project implementations during El-Rufai’s tenure from 2015 to 2023.

The committee’s report, presented during a plenary session on Wednesday by Chairman Henry Zacharia, alleged significant procedural breaches in the acquisition of various loans.

The findings accuse El-Rufai and his commissioners of engaging in activities that include awarding contracts without due process, diverting public funds, money laundering, and excessive borrowing that has left the state in a precarious financial situation.

Specifically, the report highlights the need for a comprehensive investigation into El-Rufai and several high-ranking officials from his administration. It recommends that security operatives and anti-corruption agencies conduct these investigations to ensure accountability and transparency.

In addition to calling for a broader probe, the committee has also recommended immediate actions against certain officials currently serving in the state government.

This includes the suspension of the Kaduna State Commissioner of Finance, Shizer Badda, and the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, both of whom have been implicated in the report.

The Assembly’s call for a thorough investigation underscores its commitment to addressing corruption and ensuring that public funds are managed responsibly.

As this story develops, all eyes will be on the forthcoming actions by the relevant authorities and the responses from those accused.

Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
