No fewer than 80 youths in Yobe, have benefited from a British Council funded training and empowerment to promote reintegration and sustainable peace.
The intervention, titled ”Strengthening Youth Initiatives for Reintegration and Sustainable Peace in Northeast Nigeria”, was implemented by the Communal Resilience Support Initiative (CORSIN) in Damaturu and Gujba Local Government Areas.
Speaking at the validation and closing ceremony, CORSIN Executive Director, Dr Mohammed Machina, said the sponsorship enabled intensive four-month training for participants.
Machina said the youths were equipped with leadership, peacebuilding and conflict resolution skills.
He added that the project targeted communities affected by insurgency to strengthen social cohesion and economic resilience.
According to him, 30 participants were selected for business support and each received N100,000 as start-up capital.
He said that the funding support from the British Council made it possible to combine training with direct economic empowerment.
