‎Buni’s Reconstruction Drive: Yobe Government Inspects Key Projects in Insurgency-Ravaged community.

‎By Yusuf Bukar Biriri.

‎Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, one of the communities worst affected by the decade-long Boko Haram insurgency, is steadily witnessing a new phase of recovery as the state government intensifies reconstruction and infrastructure development across critical sectors.

‎As part of efforts to ensure quality delivery and readiness for commissioning the  Commissioner for Housing and Urban development Arc. Ahmad Buba Abba Kyari, inspected several completed and ongoing projects in Buni-Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba LGA.

‎The inspection covered strategic projects spanning health, commerce, sports, and security infrastructure, underscoring the commitment of the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni CON to rebuilding communities devastated by years of conflict and restoring normalcy to public life.

‎Speaking during the inspection at the Specialist Hospital, Buni-Yadi, Commissioner Kyari explained that the exercise was aimed at assessing both the quality and level of work on key projects across the local government.

‎“We are on ground today to assess the level and quality of work on projects site in critical sectors, particularly health, commerce, sports, and security infrastructure,” he said.

‎“This hospital is one of the five facilities upgraded from General Hospitals to Specialist Hospitals by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, which necessitated the expansion and construction of essential facilities to meet specialist standards.”

‎The Commissioner noted that the inspection was also in line with the government’s tradition of conducting end-of-year assessments, especially as several projects are expected to be commissioned by the Governor in early 2026.

‎While expressing satisfaction with the quality of the projects inspected, Kyari emphasized that contractors had been advised to address minor gaps where necessary, in order to meet required standards.

‎Among the projects inspected are  Specialist Hospital, Buni-Yadi, where significant infrastructure has been completed and more facilities are under construction,  include Maternity Complex and an Accident and Emergency Unit, while ongoing works comprise the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Staff Quarters, Amenity Complex, and a Twin Theatre Complex designed to enhance surgical services.

‎The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Raji Gomna Abdullahi, described the  government’s intervention as transformative, recalling that the facility was completely destroyed during the insurgency.

‎“Before the insurgency, this was a General Hospital. During the crisis, the entire structure was burnt down,” he said.

‎“But with the intervention of His Excellency, the hospital was rebuilt and upgraded to a Specialist Hospital. Today, the maternity and Accident and Emergency complexes are fully completed, while other critical facilities are ongoing.”

‎Dr. Abdullahi noted that the infrastructural upgrade, combined with improved staffing and equipment, has significantly boosted healthcare delivery in the area, reducing referrals to Damaturu and Maiduguri. According to him, the hospital now receives referrals from neighbouring states such as Borno and Gombe.

‎He also commended the state government for the introduction of free maternal and under-five healthcare services, urging residents to take advantage of the opportunity.

‎ The team also inspects  Buni-Yadi Stadium and the Ultra-Modern Market, projects aimed at reviving economic activities, encouraging youth engagement, and restoring communal life in a town that once stood at the epicentre of insurgent attacks.

‎In further demonstration of its multi-sectoral approach to security and stability, the state government is also executing several projects at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NASFS), Buni-Yadi. Inspected facilities included a tower, gate house, Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) office, Quarter Guard Platform, and other auxiliary structures.

Arch Kyari explained that the intervention at the military facility followed a directive by Governor Buni to support security agencies operating within the state.

‎“Earlier this year, we visited this facility with His Excellency, and he directed that the state should assist through fencing, renovation of RSM offices, construction of new facilities, and general beautification of the school,” he added.

‎The Commissioner further highlighted that the administration’s focus on infrastructure is deliberate, noting that the 2026 budget has been tagged a Budget of Transformation and Infrastructure.

‎“This government believes in continuity and consolidation. By investing in the right infrastructure, we are strengthening service delivery and improving the daily lives of our people,” the commissioner stressed.

‎For residents of Gujba LGA, the ongoing reconstruction represents more than just physical structures—it symbolizes recovery, resilience, and renewed government presence after years of devastation.

‎With sustained investments across health, commerce, sports, and security, the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni continues to reinforce its commitment to rebuilding conflict-affected communities and laying the foundation for long-term peace and development.
