Catholic Bishop of Lafia ordains 5 new priests

The Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, David Ajang, on Thursday ordained five new priests with a call on them to be humble and live simple lives in the service of God and humanity.

Ajang while performing the ordination ceremony at the Saint Williams Cathedral, Lafia, Nasarawa State, charged the new priests to be totally committed to winning souls for Jesus Christ.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the newly ordained priests include Emmanuel Ogah, Enoch Ogbari-Emmanuel, Clement Mentol-Sekna’an, Basil Allahnana-Odeh and Samuel Ogbole-Innocent.

The bishop emphasised the importance of living a simple life, free from materialism and worldly desires.

He urged priests to focus on their spiritual duties and serve as role models for their congregation.

The bishop noted that the Catholic Church prioritised the plight of the common people, given the current economic hardship, and urged the priests to identify with the poor and support them always.

He also challenged the priests to always  practice what they preach and lead exemplary lives that others would emulate.

Ajang lamented the increasing rate of jobless youths roaming the streets across every village, town and city in the country and called on the government to engage them and in order to make them unavailable for crimes and violence.

He pointed out that the number of unemployed youths was a ticking bomb that, if not engaged, would explode with very negative consequences.

He encouraged the youths to acquire a skill, learn a trade or be educated in order not to become vulnerable to be  manipulated by unpatriotic people to cause mayhem in the country.

The Bishop also urged the people to always pray for priests and other clergymen for them to succeed in their responsibilities in God’s vineyard.

Speaking on behalf of the new priests,
Basil Allahnana-Odeh, appreciated God for the grace to work in his vineyard.

He also expressed gratitude to their parents for their support and sacrifices and sought prayers as they begin a new spiritual journey.
