Children’s day: Sokoto Govt organizes party for children

Vows that the perpetrators of child abuse will not be spared

As part of activities commemorating this year children’s day Sokoto State Government yesterday organized party for the children across the 23 local governments of the state.

The party is the climax of activities to mark the celebration of this year children’s day.

Speaking at the event the commissioner of women and children affairs Hajia Kulu Abdullahi Sifawa said the party is to give the children sense of belonging.

She further disclosed that the state government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has done a lot for the women and children in the state.

She added that Sokoto is among the few state in Northern Nigeria that has domesticated child right act.

” We here in Sokoto have great concern for the welfare of women and children , as part of this the governor , Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has signed into law the child right act, the law since has been domesticated she added .

She further disclosed that the perpetrators of child abuse should desist or face the full wrath of law stressing that the ministry will collaborate with NAPTIP to prosecute the offenders of child abuse.

She divulged that this administration has given priority for the enrollment of out of school children.

” Since this government came onboard there was increase in the enrollment of out of school children she stated.

Commenting on the girl that was confined in the cage by her Aunty for eight months the commissioner said she thanked God because the girl is recuperating noting that the state government would make sure the aunty face the full wrath of the law.

As part of the activities the children were sensitized on Covid19 pandemic to avoid its further spread

Some exceptional children who participated in essay writing and debate received a valuable prizes from the state government.

The venue of the event women development centre wore a new look as children were seen dancing and eating to mark the end of the event.
