CMD calls for establishment of Medical School at Federal University, Gusau

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Federal Medical Center (FMC), Gusau, Dr Bello Kwatarkwashi has called for the establishment of a Medical School at Federal University, Gusau (FUG).

Kwatarkwashi made the call on Saturday at Bungudu town during the inauguration of health volunteers and presentation of awards to hardworking staff of General Hospital, Bungudu.

He noted that the call was to address shortage of medical doctors in the State.

The event was organised by Bungudu Concerned Citizens Group.

The CMD said that it was imperative to site the Medical School to provide adequate medical doctors and other medical personnel to address shortage of health manpower in the state.

“Though we have been working with the Management of FUG and Zamfara State Government to ensure that the School of Medicine is established in the Institution.

“At this note, I want to call on the State Government and Management of the Institution to maximize efforts towards ensuring the establishment of the medical school,” Dr Kwatarkwashi added.

In his remarks, the Emir of Bungudu, Alhaji Hassan Attahiru commended the group for promoting development in Bungudu emirate.

Attahiru called on the State government to give more attention to health care delivery in the state.

The Emir also commended well meaning individuals in the emirate for their contributions to the development of the area.

He assured continued support and cooperation of the Emirate to the Group for the development of the area.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health. Dr Habibu Yelwa charged the volunteers and the health workers on dedication and sacrifice to duty.

Yelwa reiterated the State Government’s commitment to continue to give priority to health care delivery in the state.

According to him, the awards would serve as an encouragement to health workers to be more dedicated to their duties.

Earlier, the Chairman of Bungudu Concerned Citizens’ Group, Malam Mas’ud Ibrahim said that the event was part of the activities of the Group to promote Health care services.

“We gather for presentation of awards to some health personnel in this hospital for their dedication and sacrifice to their duties.

“Part of the event was also to inaugurate health workers, who expressed their interest to volunteer in the hospital, considering the fact of shortage of health personnel in the facility.

“This is aimed at encouraging members of the public to participate in health care delivery for our people, especially at grassroots,’’ Ibrahim noted.
