Coalition cautions students against drug abuse, thuggery in Adamawa
A Coalition of Northern Groups Student’s Win (CNG-SW) Adamawa Chapter on Saturday cautioned against drug abuse and thuggery among Nigeria students.
Speaking at a one-day public lecture organised by the coalitiin in Yola, Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa, Abubakar Aliyu, said drug abuse was the backbone of every crime.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the lecture has, as its theme, ‘Building Responsible Students’ Leadership: combating drug abuse, thuggery, hate speech and campus disunity through positive values and mentorship’.
The Commander, who was represented by Mr Aliyu Ajiya, appreciated the coalition for organising the lecture and urged the participants to shun drug abuse for a successful life and peaceful society.
According to him, drug abuse also contributes to thuggery, tension and other bad behaviors on the campus and the society in general.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, Police Public Relations Officer, Adamawa Command, called on students to shun thuggery and gangsterism.
Nguroje, who was represented by ASP Abdullahi Isah, said most of those who engage in these crimes regret at the end of the day and it mostly lead to loss of lives and property.
According to him, the command is doing everything possible to ensure such activities have reduced in the state through community policing and other measures.
Usman Ahmed-Dada, Executive Director, DADAH Foundation for Education Empowerment, urged the participants to understand the key concepts of the lecture to secure their future for more development in the society.
Ahmed-Dada, who is the Chairman of the occasion, expressed the need for such lectures to be organised by different organisations for a peaceful society ahead of 2027 general elections.

“The lecture is therefore appropriate and timely. My dear students, please avoid social vices. avoid drug abuse, causing crisis on the campus, thuggery, religious bigotry and other social vices bedeviling us on our campuses,” he said.
In his remarks, Mr Jamilu Charanchi, National Coordinator of the coalition said the lecture was to reshape values, characters and responsibilities, irrespective of any difference.
He said the brain behind all forms of social vices was drug abuse, hence the need for everyone to come together and reduce the menace in the society.
“We are here in Adamawa to groom the future leaders of the country because we believe that campuses are not only meant for academics.
“They are a grooming ground, where future leaders are being produced with good characters that will move this country forward,” he said.
