COAS tasks Regimental Sergeant Majors on mentorship
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) to serve as mentors for soldiers, emphasising that they should lead by example and guide with wisdom.
Shaibu made the call on Thursday while declaring the Second RSMs’ Convention 2025 closed in Enugu.
He urged them to uphold the cherished culture and heritage of the Nigerian Army that rests on discipline, regimentation and professionalism.
The army chief said that their positive influence must bear on soldiers under their units as well as the entire barrack community.
“I want you to go to your various units and barracks to nurture soldiers and people living in the barracks community under you to be the best.
“You must lead by positive example, guide with wisdom and mentor with courage and fatherly care.
“As an RSM, you are the moral compass of a soldier, which guides his or her career path.
“By fulfilling your role, the Nigerian Army will have troops that are disciplined and professionally ready to accomplish tasks with resounding successes.”
The COAS thanked the Chief of Administration for a successful convention devoid of hiccups as well as RSMs for their devotion and commitment to attend the important convention.
The army chief appreciated the Commander-in-Chief, President Bola Tinubu, for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army programmes and operations throughout the country.
He also thanked the government and people of Enugu State for creating a serene and peaceful atmosphere for a successful convention.
