Early Wednesday morning, a fire outbreak tragically claimed the lives of three family members of Dr. Yusuf Kofar-Mata, the Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education.
The incident occurred at his residence in Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano metropolis, while the family was asleep.
Dr. Kofar-Mata narrowly escaped the disaster, but his daughter, Maimuna, his elder sister, Khadija, and a close relative, Juwairiyya, perished in the blaze. It is reported that several valuables were destroyed in the fire, although the exact extent of the damage and the cause of the fire have not yet been determined.
The State Fire Service spokesperson, Abdullahi Saminu, confirmed the incident but stated that the cause of the fire and the level of damage are still under investigation.
In a heartfelt message posted on his verified social media handle, Dr. Kofar-Mata expressed profound grief, saying, “Unto Allah, we came and to Him we shall return.” He mourned the loss of his daughter Maimuna, his elder sister Hajiya Khadija, and his brother’s wife, Juwairiyya, all of whom died in the fire.
The funeral prayers for the deceased were conducted at 11 am at Kofar-Mata quarters, Kano City.
