COVID-19: NEMA sensitises Stakeholders in Zamfara on disaster management guidelines, protocols
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has organised a one-day consultative and interactive meeting for stakeholders on disaster management in line with COVID-19 guidelines and protocols.
In a remark, the Head, Sokoto Operation Office, NEMA, Dr Kofoworola Soleye, said the training was part of NEMA’s coordination and collaboration.
Soleye, who was represented by the Head, Planning, Research and Forecasting, NEMA, Tukur Abubakar, said in disaster management, stakeholders must meet from time to time to discuss on disaster issues, challenges and way forward.
“You know we are in the COVID-19 period, part of the meeting is to discuss how to comply with COVID-19 guidelines while managing disasters.
“We have participants from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state, security agencies, NGOs, CSOs, traditional, religious and community leaders among other stakeholders.
“We provided resource persons to discuss on roles of Disaster Management authorities, contributions, challenges, and preparedness of key stakeholders.
“At the end of this training, we hope to come out with meaningful recommendations on ways of addressing the challenges in disaster management,” he said.
The coordinator called on Zamfara State Government to give priority to disaster management, especially on capacity building and stakeholders collaboration.

Earlier, in a welcome address, the Director-General, State Directorate of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Asma’u Abdullahi, commended NEMA for organising the training in the state.
