Davido Gives Up Custody Battle for Daughter Imade

191

Nigerian music star David ‘Davido’ Adeleke appears to have relinquished his custody battle for his daughter, Imade Aurora Adeleke, following an emotional counter affidavit from his estranged lover, Sophia Momodu. In her response, Momodu referenced the tragic death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, as part of her argument against granting him custody.

The affidavit, submitted to the Lagos State High Court, asserts that Davido cannot adequately care for their daughter. Momodu detailed that Davido’s lifestyle and frequent travels would be detrimental to Imade’s well-being.

“Imade is a minor, just 9 years old, and has lived with me all her life. I have been solely responsible for her welfare, upkeep, and well-being,” Momodu stated in the affidavit marked LD/1587PMC/2024. She emphasized that Davido’s frequent travels and the presence of unsavoury individuals around him make him unsuitable for custody.

“The Applicant [Davido] often travels due to his career and allows unsavoury male adults around him and his house, who would not be a good influence on an impressionable young female child like our daughter,” she added. Momodu also mentioned Davido’s refusal to agree to child therapy and highlighted concerns about the stability of his involvement in Imade’s life.

She further pointed out the unfortunate and questionable circumstances surrounding the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, as evidence that their daughter would not be safe in his custody.

In reaction to the court proceedings, Davido expressed his frustration and sorrow via Instagram. “You’re constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point you can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives. Imade will grow up to see I fought for her… as for now, you can have her,” he wrote.

He continued, “P.S: she won’t be a child forever… enjoy Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!”

Davido also clarified his intentions, stating, “All I ask for is JOINT CUSTODY!! And nothing else! But because it’s ‘Davido’ y’all wanna act like y’all can’t read. Smh…I’m off this! Y’all be blessed and I pray this never happens to you.”

The singer’s heartfelt posts highlight the emotional toll the custody battle has taken on him and his desire for a fair resolution that ensures his continued presence in his daughter’s life.
