Democracy: Vision of founding fathers shall prevail – Osun speaker

Mr Timothy Owoeye,  Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, has urged that the vision and drudgery of Nigeria’s  founding fathers should not be in vain in spite of insecurity and other challenges.

In a statement to commemorate Nigeria’s 2021 Democracy Day on Saturday, Owoeye called on all Nigerians  to rise against insecurity.

He said that insecurity had regressed into barbarousness in almost every part of the country. He admonished people fanning the embers of discord to have a rethink, saying  that an insecure atmosphere would not offer any good  to anyone.

According to him, insecurity would promote economic depression, environmental problems and conflicts in social structure.

Owoeye said that Nigeria as envisioned by its fathers would be possible with  patriotism on the part of the citizens.

According to the lawmaker, if the citizens go  into politics and national service with the mindset of giving  to the country, Nigeria will be better.

“I want to use the occasion of our Democracy Day to appeal to few people, who are bent on tampering with the fragile peace of our nation, to have a change of mind and consider the adverse effects that their actions will have on families, cities and towns.

“We cannot deny that the present state of the country is worrisome and displeasing, but calling for division of the country is not the solution to our present condition.

“Nigerians must all stand up in support of one indivisible country where all tribes and ethnic groups will flourish and attain their potential.

“Citizens must not compromise our peace and unity. What our begetters envisioned for the country is unity in diversity, peace and progress of a prosperous Nigeria,” he said.

The speaker said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the labour of Nigeria’s past heroes would not amount to nothing.

He expressed the hope that Nigeria would survive all its challenges.“Nigeria will survive must be the song on every lip,” he said.
