Ex-CDS Christopher Musa meets Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu on Monday met with the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), at the State House, Abuja.

‎The visit was Musa’s first public appearance at the Villa since his retirement by President Tinubu on Oct. 24.

‎The details of their closed-door engagement were not disclosed.

‎Musa served as Chief of Defence Staff from June 23, 2023, until his retirement on Oct. 24.

‎The meeting comes as the nation grapples with heightened insecurity, with the President recently declaring a security emergency.

In a related development, Defence Minister, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned his appointment, with immediate effect.

In a letter dated Dec. 1, sent to President Tinubu, Abubakar said he was quitting on health grounds.

President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Abubakar for his services to the nation.

Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), said in a statement Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru’s successor later this week.

Badaru, 63, was a two-term governor of Jigawa from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed as a minister on Aug. 21, 2023, by the President.

Onanuga said Badaru’s resignation comes amid Tinubu’s declaration of a national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
