Ex-Taraba Planning chairman decries frequent attacks on security personnel

Dr Buba Mafindi, the immediate past Chairman, Taraba Planning Commission, on Sunday, said the frequents attacks on security personnel and facilities across the country portend danger to Nigeria’s unity.

Mafindi, who said this in an interview with newsmen in Jalingo, stressed the need for the Federal Government to urgently convene a national dialogue to arrest the situation.“The attacks in the country at the moment are assuming a dangerous dimension as security operatives and outfits are not spared.

“I want to urge the FG to urgently convene a national dialogue to discuss solutions before the lack of trust for the government agencies worsen.

“The country’s economy is in a very bad shape at the moment, due to overwhelming attacks and killings across the country affecting most economic activities,” he said.

Mafindi also said there was an urgent need for the restructuring of the country to enhance equity, justice and fairness to all sections of the country.

“The country also needs urgent restructuring, especially in order to put more items on the concurrent list to enable state governments tap the resources in their domains for development.

“The current arrangement where most of the mineral resources are on the exclusive list is inimical to national development. According to him, the country needed to have strong  institutions that can guarantee growth and development.

Mafindi called on aggrieved persons across the country to eschew violence and push for a round table dialogue for a better country.
