The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) partners Bauchi Community leaders for sensitization on consumer protection and rights.
Dr Adamu Abdullahi,The Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman/ Chief Executive Officer stated this at the sensitisation conference for traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders on Wednesday in Bauchi.
He explained that FCCPC, as a federal government agency, was established under the FCCP Act of 2018 with the mandate to promote and protect the consumers’ interest in the growing competitive market.
“There is need for the Agency to partner and sensitize the community leaders which include traditional and religious leaders and other stakeholders on the mandate of the Agency
“We have the belief and confidence community leaders are close to the people that is why we feel it is imperative to embark on this sensitisation to acquaint you with our activities.
“The collaboration would help the commission carry out its functions effectively because is expected of you to step down the sensitisation to the people,” he said
The Executive Chairman at the Emir Bauchi Palace said the commission is committed to ensuring a fair and competitive marketplace for all Nigerians.
“That is why we encourage consumers to continue reporting suspected price gouging and other unfair trade practices through the commission
According to Mr Abdullahi, the FCCPC will work collaboratively with traditional and religious leaders,trade associations, and farmer groups.
“With other stakeholders to identify and remove unnecessary barriers to entry in various sectors, combat price-fixing, and dismantle cartels.
“We will engage in advocacy and public awareness campaigns to raise awareness about price gouging and other unfair trade practices and provide guidance on identifying and reporting such practices,” he said.
Responding, Mr Abraham Damina, State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) said this sensitisation is paramount to both traditional and religious leaders who are very close to the people.
He pledged to preach the gospel to the brethren and support the crusades of the commission.
On his part the Secretary of the Bauchi State Sharia Commission, Ustaz Tijjani. Also promise to sensitize their people on the activities of the commission.
In his remark, Dr. Rilwanu Adamu, Emir of Bauchi,represented by the District Head of Lame, Alh Aliyu Lame, assured that the traditional institution would complement the commission efforts.
“Through enlightening the public on the activities of the commission and as well ensure that sensitization reaches the target audience.
