FG inaugurates 100-computer capacity OGITECH robotics centre

The Federal Government says it has inaugurated a cutting-edge Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) at the Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), equipped with 100 computers to facilitate advanced learning and innovation.

The Executive Secretary, the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), Mr Oluyomi Arowosafe, said this during the official opening of the centre on Thursday at Igbesa, Ogun State.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the project, an Emerging Technology Centre (ETC), was facilitated by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).

The project is in support of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, to improve digital education.

Speaking about the centre, Arowosafe said the initiative underscored government’s commitment to fostering a tech-savvy workforce and driving economic growth through strategic investments in education and technology.

He said that it was a significant moment to officially hand over the facility to its end-users.

According to him, the facility, which is powered by solar energy, represents more than just bricks and mortar but embodies a vision and commitment.

The USPS scribe said that it was an investment in the future of Ogun and, by extension, the future of the nation Nigeria.

“USPF under the strategic direction of the Federal Government is vested with the mandate of providing ICT access to the unserved and underserved communities across the country.

“Through the strategic implementation of projects across the six geo-political zones, the ETC is a significant milestone in the USPF efforts to bridge the digital divide and promote digital inclusion in Nigeria.

“The ETC is equipped with 100 desktop computers, emerging technology applications, bandwidth and connectivity tools, which will provide students and faculty members with access to cutting-edge technology and resources,” he said.

Arowosafe said that with a 9,300 capacity student population, OGITECH was one of the leading institutions of technology in Nigeria and they were proud to partner with them to bring the project to fruition.

According to him, the ETC will not only enhance students’ learning experience but also provide a platform for innovation, research and development.

Arowosafe urged the students to make the best use of the centre to enhance their potential.

“We believe this project will contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth and development. We’re proud to be part of it and look forward to its impact.”

“The MoU signing ensures project sustainability, enabling beneficiary organisations to take ownership and commit to initiatives that ensure continued service beyond handover by the USPF, “he said.

Dr Abiodun Oluseye, Rector of OGITECH, who emphasised the institution’s pressing need for the centre, revealed its ambitious vision to emerge as a premier technological hub, driving innovation and excellence in the community.

“We have been longing for this and with its inception we can now boast of producing graduates capable of standing the test of time in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and its emerging innovations.

The rector tasked the students to use the facility to initiate productive programmes and application to impact the society positively.

According to him, the centre is an enhancement centre that equips people with contemporary solutions skills to be self-reliant.

He urged the students to leverage the facility to enhance their skills and make a positive impact in the society.

Oluseye noted that in today’s AI-driven world, the centre would equip them with a competitive advantage, particularly in designing solution-based devices.

He encouraged the students to give back to the institution once they became successful.

VMT NEWS reports that the centre, a newly constructed and equipped facility, will help the students acquire practical knowledge on the use of Artificial Intelligence, digital programming and application of devices to solve contemporary needs among others.
