FG, Yobe empower 520 onion farmers with inputs
The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), in collaboration with the Yobe government, has empowered 520 onion farmers with inputs in the state under the Onion Intervention Programme.
Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim, NADF Executive Secretary, stated this while distributing the inputs to the beneficiaries in Damaturu on Sunday.
Ibrahim , represented by Mr Munkail Gaya, listed the inputs to include 1,560 onion seedlings, 2,080 NPK fertilizer and 1,040 chemicals.
The 520 selected farmers were part of the total 2,000 onion farmers to benefit from the inputs across the country.
Ibrahim noted that the beneficiaries were victims of recent flooding and other climate-related shocks.
“The onion value chain remains one of the strategic agricultural subsectors contributing significantly to livelihoods, nutrition and rural economic development.

“Unfortunately, many of our farmers suffered devastating losses due to unprecedented flooding.
“We especially recognise the struggles of farmers in states like Sokoto, Kebbi, Yobe and Borno, who bore the brunt of these disasters,” the executive secretary said.
He said the programme fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration aimed at strengthening and safeguarding Nigeria’s agriculture ecosystem.
In his remarks, Gov Mai Mala Buni commended NADF for the initiative aimed at revitalising agriculture to create jobs and enhance food security.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Ali Goniri, the governor noted that the support was in line with the state Agriculture Development Programme, which supported no fewer than 10,000 farmers with machinery and other inputs in 2024 and 2025.
Alhaji Bakura Usman, state Chairman, National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), thanked the state and federal governments for the intervention and pledged to make judicious use of the inputs.
