Foundation inaugurates committee on Women, Peace, Security initiative in Nasarawa
The Centre for Law Enforcement Education in Nigeria (CLEEN) Foundation has inaugurated the Nasarawa State Multi-stakeholder Implementation and Monitoring Committee on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), to strengthen coordinated efforts toward gender-inclusive peacebuilding in the state.
Mr Peter Maduoma, Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation, announced this on Tuesday in Lafia during a three-day Women, Peace and Security (WPS) stakeholder inception training workshop organised by the Foundation.
Maduoma, represented by Ifeyinwa Akwiwu, Legal/Human Resource Officer, said the initiative was part of the Foundation’s project on “Strengthening a Right-Based Approach to Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) Framework and Advancing Women’s Peace and Security in Nigeria”.
He said that the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs funded the initiative through its embassy in Nigeria.
He appreciated the Embassy, led by Amb. Søren Barre, for its partnership and the confidence in the Foundation to advance the WPS agenda in Nigeria, particularly in Nasarawa State.
According to him, the project, launched on Aug. 25 in Abuja, is being implemented in five states — Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kaduna and Imo, to promote a coordinated and data-driven approach to peace and conflict resolution through a gender-responsive mechanism.
He said that the workshop aimed to formally inaugurate the state’s multi-stakeholder committee, build the capacity of members on WPS principles and monitoring tools, and enhance collaboration among government institutions, security agencies, civil society, and women groups.
Maduoma added that the engagement would also help develop state-specific implementation and reporting frameworks aligned with the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security.
He noted that the Foundation had, for 27 years, been promoting public safety, security, and social justice across Nigeria and Africa through research, legislative advocacy, and partnerships with government and civil society.
In his remarks, Mr Isaac Danladi, Nasarawa State Attorney-General, represented by Mrs Ramatu Abdullahi, acknowledged the critical role that women play in society.
He said that the ministry had put machinery in place to ensure the prosecution of perpetrators of gender based violence to serve as a deterrent.

Jugbo also promised to support the full implementation of laws that guarantee the rights of women and ensure justice to those who have suffered injustice.
Mr Nnamdi Odo, Programme Officer, and Mr Bernard Ekobay, Senior Programme Officer of CLEEN Foundation, made presentations at the workshop.
The duo built the capacity of the stakeholders and enhanced their understanding on conflict, conflict analysis and peace building.
They emphasised on the capacity of stakeholders to review the Nasarawa State Action Plan on Women Peace and Security that elapsed in 2024 and develop the second WPS State Action Plan for Nasarawa state
