Galaxy Backbone Gets New Board, Reinforces Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Ambitions
The Federal Government has inaugurated a new Board of Directors for Galaxy Backbone Limited (GBB), signaling a renewed commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital transformation. The inauguration ceremony, held at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Abuja, was led by Senator Dr. George Akume (CON), who also serves as the Chairman of the GBB Board.
This move underscores the government’s vision to leverage robust digital infrastructure to propel Nigeria’s participation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“Our goal is to make Galaxy Backbone a more agile and impactful institution,” stated Senator Akume. “It will be a driving force behind Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure and service delivery.”

Professor Ibrahim A. Adeyanju, Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, welcomed the new Board and highlighted the organization’s progress since his appointment in February 2024. Despite operating without a Board for over a year, GBB successfully developed and launched the Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) 2025–2028. This roadmap aims to modernize Nigeria’s ICT infrastructure and empower public services with digital capabilities.
The IDTS focuses on key pillars:
Modernizing Nigeria’s National ICT Backbone Infrastructure: Strengthening the foundation for a digitally connected nation.
Building inclusive digital ecosystems: Connecting government, businesses, and citizens through digital platforms.
Leveraging emerging technologies: Utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain for smarter service delivery.
Enhancing digital trust: Implementing cybersecurity and data governance for secure digital services.
Diversifying GBB’s revenue base: Ensuring long-term sustainability through diverse revenue streams.
The IDTS aligns with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy’s priorities and supports President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Professor Adeyanju expressed enthusiasm about working with the new Board, recognizing its valuable insight and guidance as essential for GBB’s continued growth and national impact.
