Gov. Buni inaugurates 243 million litres’ water treatment plant
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe on Monday inaugurated a flood control project, a dam and water treatment plant on Monday in Buni-Gari.

Speaking at the inauguration, the governor said the projects were in fulfilment of his campaign promises to the people.
He said the flood control project would not only mitigate the impact of floods and erosion but also optimise water harvested from the floods for irrigation agriculture.
“This project will provide us with the opportunity to reclaim the environment with increased agricultural practice,” he said.
The governor also launched the distribution of farm inputs to farmers who lost their farms to the floods to enable them to engage in irrigation farming.

He said the dam with 243 million litres of water capacity would solve the age-long water scarcity in Buni Gari, Buni Yadi and other adjoining communities.
Buni also inaugurated the Water Quality Laboratory at the Ministry of Water Resources in order to to ensure the safety and the quality of water supplied to the public.
“This Laboratory provides a check to water borne related diseases, making the state meet global Water and Sanitation laws,” he said.
The governor urged the communities to take ownership of the projects and protect them for maximum benefit.
