Gov-buni launch distribution of 50,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable households.

Yobe state Governor Dr Mai mala Buni has  launch the distribution of 50,000 bags of assorted grains to the vulnerable people across the 17 local government areas of the state under the present administration’s Food Security Drive programme. 

Buni said in line with the government’s vision and mission of food security and resilience building for efficient and effective recovery from natural disasters such as this year’s floods which claimed some lives and properties, government initiated the food basket programme.

“Government is conscious of the challenges posed by such calamities, and the difficulties that usually accompany the farming circle between planting and harvesting seasons when farmers have invested and exhausted their food stock, while the new crops are not ready for harvest he emphasised.

According to the governor his administration is committed to providing succour at such challenging moments to support our people, mitigate the impact of the floods, restore hope and overcome these challenges with dignity. 

 “The distribution programme today, is designed to ensure that various categories including the rural and vulnerable households, as well as, the critical segments of our civil servants benefit from the exercise, with each beneficiary to receive One Bag of 50kg grains delivered directly to their doorstep Buni added.

The category of the beneficiaries include 5,580 primary school teachers, 1,780 Primary Healthcare Center workers, 2,400 persons with special needs and 1,200 Tsangaya Mallams.

Others include 2,000 junior cadre civil servants, 2,000 staff of tertiary institutions, 600 staff of Teaching and Specialist hospitals, and 25,500 vulnerable persons across the 17 local government areas. 

He used the  opportunity to reassure that Yobe State Government remains fully committed to promoting agricultural development as a tool for economic growth, food sufficiency and security.

Buni said you will recall that, in a  bid to promote mechanized agriculture through the Agriculture Empowerment Programme, government last year procured and distributed 100 Zoom Lion Tractors, 300 sets of Ox-drawn ploughs, 72,000 bags of fertilizer, 1,000 threshers,  5,349 small ruminants (goats) for women livestock farmers, 1,349 hand push planters, 889 hand-push plough machines, 590 hand-push tiller machines, 4,202 solar-powered irrigation water pumps, over 1,000 harvesters, improved assorted seeds, 10 Double Cabin 4 wheel drive vehicles for supervision of extension service workers, 200 motor cycles to extension workers.

Similarly, at the beginning of this cropping season, government procured and distributed 40 Massey Ferguson tractors, 1,961 Power Tillers, 1,250 Hand Push Planters, 553 Multi-Purpose Threshers, 3,410 Solar water pumps, 830 Fertilizer Applicator, 4,500 bags of NPK 20:10:10 Fertilizer, 195 Crop Residue crushers, 495 Crop Residue choppers, 20,000 Assorted improved seeds, Assorted Agro Chemicals, 4,000 Bunch of Cassava Stems, Assorted Certified Seeds, 50 Tricycles and 30 Motorcycles.

Buni reassured that these interventions would continue to receive government attention with much emphasis on irrigation farming to boost agricultural productivity for food sufficiency, food security and economic prosperity of our citizenry.

He  commend the Federal Government of  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for aligning national priorities with our efforts to achieve food security through the Renewed Hope Agenda. We will continue to scale up our investments in agriculture to guarantee that Yobe State does not only become food sufficient but contribute meaningfully to national food security. 

 He charged the distribution committee to ensure that the grains are distributed to the targeted beneficiaries to achieve the set goal of supporting vulnerable persons in the state,
