Gov. Buni Puts People First: Yobe Enhances Sanitation Workforce and Flood-Control Infrastructure to Protect Lives
Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni (FCIA, CON, COMN), has approved the recruitment of 18 new sanitary inspectors (Dubagari), reinforcing his administration’s unwavering commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for the people of Yobe State.
The General Manager of the Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency (YOSEPA), Sanitarian Baba Gana Modu, disclosed the development during an interview with YBC’s Zauran Malamai program.
He explained that years of workforce depletion due to retirement had weakened sanitation monitoring and public hygiene enforcement across communities. Restoring and strengthening the Dubagari workforce, he said, demonstrates Gov. Buni’s leadership philosophy—putting human health and dignity above all else.
Beyond recruitment, YOSEPA has embarked on a statewide sensitization campaign to reawaken public responsibility on cleanliness, engaging traditional rulers, market leaders, youth groups, and women’s associations. He emphasized that environmental health requires collective action and urged citizens to fully support the new inspectors.
He further cautioned residents to avoid reckless bush burning as the harmattan season approaches, stressing that uncontrolled fires remain a major cause of community disasters and property destruction.
Gov. Buni’s new sanitation intervention is aligned with broader infrastructure investments designed to protect families from seasonal flooding and improve water flow across communities. These include:

Under Gov. Buni’s stewardship, Yobe is steadily transforming into a model of environmental responsibility and disaster-resilient development, where every neighborhood has the opportunity to thrive in safety, cleanliness, and pride.
