Gov.Buni’s Agricultural programme beats food inflation

By Yusuf Bukar Biriri.

The agricultural empowerment  programme launched by the Yobe state government has grossly checked inflation in food items in the state, according to reports.

The National Bureau of Statistics in its July monthly report said the general inflation rate in Yobe state dropped from 13.5% to 11.43% making the state the most affordable state to live in Nigeria.

Similarly, the food inflation rate dropped from 17.9% in June to 15.1% in July.

The drop in prices of food stuff was attributed to the massive agricultural programme of the state government in the last two years attracting many youths into agriculture, boosting food security and food sufficiency.

Farmers in the state are now flooding the markets with last year’s harvests to invest in the ongoing agricultural season.

Gov. Buni last year launched a massive agricultural empowerment programme distributing machines and other farm implements, fertilizer, and improved seeds free of charge to farmers across the state.

The Buni administration also launched the second phase of the Agricultural Empowerment Programme at the beginning of the season this year to empower more farmers to engage in agriculture.

Meanwhile, farmers in the state have lauded the government intervention programme, saying it has improved agricultural productivity and output.

The farmers also attributed the improvement of security in the state to the massive agricultural practice and food sufficiency in the state.
