Gov Sule extols Nasarawa SSG’s academic, professional achievements
Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has extolled the academic and professional achievements of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Shuaibu Magaji.
Sule gave the commendation at the public presentation of a book entitled “Enforcement of Anti-Terrorism Laws and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria” on Tuesday in Abuja.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the event was organised to celebrate Magaji’s elevation to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the completion of his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, and the unveiling of his book.
Represented by his deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, the governor described Magaji as hardworking, reliable, and dedicated, noting that his appointment as SSG was a wise choice by the state government.
“I listened to all the encomiums poured on our SSG, and I am proud to hear such beautiful speeches about him. It shows we made the right choice.
“All that has been said about him is true. Sometimes, I wonder if he ever sleeps because he works round the clock,” Sule said.
Prof. Yemi Akinseye-George, SAN, Executive Director, Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, and reviewer of the book, described it as a groundbreaking work and timely intervention on one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges; security and justice.
“Dr Magaji challenges us to reflect on the balance between liberty and security, demand accountability from institutions, and work towards a justice system that protects both the state and citizens,” Akinseye-George said.
In his remarks, Magaji said his motivation for the research stemmed from his experience as a federal prosecutor handling complex terrorism cases involving Boko Haram.
He explained that the book was intended to contribute to knowledge and proffer solutions to terrorism rather than undermine any individual or institution.

“Balancing between fighting terrorism and protecting human rights is a Herculean task anywhere. Even when a suspect attempts to detonate an explosive device, the law still requires that due process be followed,” he said.
Also speaking, former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami, who chaired the occasion, described Magaji as an embodiment of excellence.
Malami expressed confidence that the book would serve as a useful guide in prosecuting terrorism cases in Nigeria.
Similarly, the Emir of Lafia, Retired Justice Sidi Bage, congratulated Magaji, describing his achievements as a product of hard work and dedication that had made the state proud.
