Gov. Sule mourns Akwashiki, extends sympathy to Nasarawa North

Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, has expressed condolences to the family of late Sen. Godiya AkwashikI, over the demise of their father.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District, passed away at the age of 52, in an Indian hospital following prolonged illness.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Lafia, Sule described his death as a profound loss to the country, the state and indeed the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District.

He said that death again had robbed the state of an illustrious son, describing the deceased as an accomplished public servant, courageous legislator and a devoted son of the state.

“His humility, commitment, and service to the Senatorial District were remarkable, and his journey as a politician was a demonstration of deep connection with the common man.

“The death is painful not only to his family, the Eggon nation, and the people of Nasarawa North, but to the entire state and the country.

“We shall continue to cherish his legacy of honour, leadership, and steadfast commitment to the progress of our dear state,” he said

On behalf of the government and people of the state, Gov..Sule extended heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Aren Eggon, Ahmed Ubangari-Alaku, the Eggon Traditional Council, the National Assembly, and all who mourn him.

He prayed that the Almighty God to grant his soul eternal rest, and give his family and the state, the strength to bear the painful loss.

VMT NEWS reports that until his death, Sen. Akwashiki was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and had served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly

He was elected to the Senate in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.
