Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has appointed Mallam Aminu Muhammad Chamalwa as the Director General of the newly established Borno State Mining Agency (BOSMA).
The announcement was made through a statement by the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, who confirmed that the appointment is with immediate effect.
Mallam Chamalwa, a native of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, brings over 35 years of relevant experience to his new role. His career trajectory includes significant positions in the Borno State Ministry of Water Resources, where he served as Deputy Director (Hydrology) from 2009 to 2018. Most recently, he held the position of Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics within the same ministry.
Professor Tar highlighted Chamalwa’s academic background, noting that he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1996. He is also an active member of the National Association of Hydrogeologists (MNAH) and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS).
In his statement, Governor Zulum expressed confidence in Chamalwa’s capabilities and urged him to work diligently to transform and elevate the mining sector in Borno State. The Governor’s directive underscores the importance of the mining sector to the state’s economic development and the expectation for BOSMA to spearhead this transformation under Chamalwa’s leadership.
