Governor Adeleke inaugurates Osun State Consultative Committee on Statistics

In the strategic effort towards strengthening Osun State Statistical System, the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke has inaugurated the State Consultative Committee on Statistics.

The Committee among others, will be supporting the State Bureau of Statistics in fostering cooperation and collaboration among data suppliers and data producers in the State.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Prof. Maruf Adeleke at the Conference room of the agency, State Secretariat, Abere, stressed the importance of reliable and dependable data in the policy development and planning process of the State.

The commissioner further informed the gathering that the state government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke is prioritising reforms in all the sectors of the state economy which according to him the 5-Points Agenda revolves around.

The inauguration of the SCCS is a testament to the resolve of Osun Government and government will not leave any stone untouched in her bid at ensuring Osun State becomes a model to other states in the federation.

In his welcome address to the gathering, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development, Prof. Maruf Adeleke, described the ceremony as one of the giant strides in the re-engineering process of achieving the all-embracing 5-Points Agenda of the incumbent administration of Senator (Dr) Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and by extension, the achievement of Osun Development Agenda, 2023-2050 and the broader vision of the founding fathers of Osun State.

According to Prof Adeleke, no nation can adequately plan and implement any project or measure the performance of any intervention without having a stock of adequate and reliable data, hence the inauguration of the State Consultative Committee on Statistics.

The State Commissioner who informed that, Governor Adeleke has commenced the implementation of critical reforms and revitalization of the State’s Statistical System, reiterated the efforts of the current administration in Osun towards the improvement and standards of living of the entire citizens.

Prof Adeleke who commended Governor Adeleke for his unalloyed support and creation of the required environment for statistical output in the state said, “Osun State Bureau of Statistics, established by Osun State Statistical Law is the authoritative source and custodian of official statistics in the State and the Bureau is legally saddled with the responsibility of coordinating the State Statistical System.

“He charged the committee to be up and doing in actualising the aims and objectives”.

While speaking, the Statistician General, Mr. Abiodun Ijidele, welcome members of the Committee noted that the inauguration marked another milestone in the government effort at revamping and repositioning the State Statistical System.

He appreciated the State government under the able leadership of Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke for supporting and creating the required environment for statistical output.

The Statistician General informed members of the committee that they will be meeting twice in a year to delineate and advise the government on appropriate statistical programmes that would assist the state in effective planning. The committee will also ensure that government agencies statistical programmes are premised on acceptable standards and methodologies. The collaboration will also avoid duplication of efforts among the stakeholders.

The committee members were drawn from agencies both federal and state governments: The Nigeria Police, Immigration, NCDSC, Road Safety, SMEDAN, Academia, NSA and DPRS in selected State Agencies.
