Governor Buni Transforms Agriculture, Positions Yobe as Nigeria’s Leading Sesame Seed Producer
Damaturu, Yobe State – Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration is spearheading a transformative agricultural revolution in Yobe State, positioning it as a leading producer of sesame seeds in Nigeria.
Driven by increasing global demand for sesame seeds – used in food, confectionery, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals – Yobe is capitalizing on its favorable climate and fertile land.

Previously, Yobe’s sesame farmers faced exploitation from middlemen due to poor infrastructure. However, Governor Buni’s significant investments in infrastructure are changing this. New road networks are opening up rural areas, providing access to markets and facilitating easy transportation of harvests.

Crucially, the establishment of four state-of-the-art sesame seed processing and packaging plants in Machina, Nguru, Potiskum, and Damaturu ensures that Yobe’s sesame meets international quality standards, attracting significant foreign investment.

Furthermore, the construction of modern markets with integrated warehousing in eight key locations offers farmers secure storage, preventing post-harvest losses and enabling them to command better prices.
These strategic interventions, coupled with the state’s new international cargo airport, provide Yobe with a significant competitive advantage over other sesame-producing states like Jigawa and Benue.

The initiative is not only boosting individual incomes and the state’s economy but also contributing significantly to Nigeria’s national economic growth.
Governor Buni’s commitment to empowering Yobe’s youth and farmers through agricultural initiatives is unlocking the immense potential of the state’s sesame seed industry.
