Governors meet on Minimum Wage, LG Autonomy, others

121

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, and Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, have arrived at the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Head Office in Abuja for the group’s meeting.

Under the leadership of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, the NGF is expected to discuss issues, including the new minimum wage and local government autonomy, among others.

The governors had previously rejected the Federal Government’s proposal of N62,000, stating that some states would need to borrow to pay salaries.

Despite this, organised labour continues to demand a minimum wage of N250,000.

The governors chose to hold an emergency meeting after the Federal Executive Council postponed the minimum wage discussion on Tuesday to allow President Bola Tinubu to conduct broader consultations.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government’s case at the Supreme Court against the 36 state governors, which seeks to enforce full autonomy for local governments, is still pending.
