Group Accuses Damagum, Others In Plot To Reinstate Sacked APC Lawmakers In Rivers
The PDP Stakeholders Forum has accused Umar Iliya Damagun, the acting National Chairman of the party, of allegedly receiving $2 million in addition to the party’s National Legal Adviser on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) in order for the party to permit the lawyers of FCT Minister Chief Nyesom Wike, led by Dr. Joshua Musa, SAN, to file covert procedures to prevent the Court from declaring vacant the seats of the 27 Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the APC.
The group’s publicity secretary, Mallam Abubakar Isa, made a statement in which he claimed that one of the NWC members who was aware of the arrangement told him that, despite receiving his fair part of the money, he was dissatisfied with the direction the party was taking.
Isa also claimed that Dr. Joshua Musa, SAN, a well-known Wike attorney, would file the processes on behalf of the PDP and adamantly argue that the court shouldn’t fire the lawmakers from Rivers who broke the law by defecting to another political party.27
“This might have been the reason Wike boasted on Saturday to the member of the House of Assembly from Ogu-Bolo State constituency, Hon. Davids Okobiriari Arnold that nobody would remove him and declare his seat vacant in the Assembly. The court action is to allow the 27 defected lawmakers time to impeach Governor Fubara and restore the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike as the leader of the Party in the State with unfettered access to the Rivers treasury,” the statement further alleged.
However, in response to this revelation, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) said that the PDP would officially cease to exist as a political party if this continued to be the party’s current strategy, in which the leadership would assist members of another party in unseating a governor chosen in accordance with its platform.
In a statement released on Thursday, the coalition urged PDP leaders to get back together before burying the party if the purported court documents are filed on Friday and drive out the Damagun-led National Working Committee.
