He added that the move would further project the capabilities and achievements of the PWDs.
He also explained that the exercise served as a call on government officials and other stakeholders toward including language interpreters in all public events, particularly during religious gatherings and institutions of learning.
“The training which focuses on disability language, framing stories and interviewing individuals with disabilities, underscores the importance of accurate representation in the media.
“It will empower journalists with the necessary knowledge and skills toward effective reporting of disability issues.
“It also seeks to improve stereotypes and promote inclusivity.
“This effort is part of a broader movement to enhance disability reporting, recognising the impact that the media can have in shaping public perceptions and attitudes toward PWDs,” he said.
The program manager also said that the participants were better equipped to accurately report disability-related issues, thereby contributing to a more inclusive and respectful media landscape in the state.
Jayeoba disclosed that barriers such as communication, cultural and religious beliefs, among others, had served as impediments for PWDs in the society.
“The media should educate the public to know that the sexual and reproductive rights of PWDs must be respected because they are human and have sexual desires just like everyone.
