Residents of Ibaka in the Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom were struck with fear as gunmen abducted eight individuals, including a naval rating, from the community. The incident occurred on Monday night at Classic Point Hotel, where the victims were reportedly relaxing.

Sources within the community disclosed that the abductees were taken away by the gunmen, creating an atmosphere of tension and fear.

When contacted, Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer ASP Timfon John confirmed the abduction. She stated that Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara, upon receiving the report, led a team of police officers to Ibaka to address the situation.

“When the police got the information, Commissioner of Police Waheed Ayilara led a team of security personnel to the community. I can assure you that with that visit by the CP and other strategic approaches, normalcy will return,” John said.

As of now, the naval authorities in Akwa Ibom have not issued any statements regarding the abduction.

This incident comes just days after a bus driver and 18 passengers traveling from Uyo to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were abducted, with their whereabouts still unknown.
