Hajj: FCT Pilgrims Welfare Board to begin distribution of materials Feb. 22

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board will, on Feb. 22,  begin distribution of travelling materials to intending Hajj pilgrims during the forthcoming second phase of education and orientation exercise in Abuja.

The exercise, according to the board, would hold at the permanent hajj camp, Bassan Jiwa, close to Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport between Feb. 22 and Feb. 23.

A statement in Abuja on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the board, Muhammad Lawal, said that the board had secured the materials to enable the intending pilgrims to prepare on time for the spiritual journey.

Lawal said that the items to be distributed during the exercise would include: uniforms, literature and audio materials to engage the intending pilgrims to continue with the learning of Hajj rites during the Islamic month of Ramadan.

He stated that activities for the intending pilgrims would be suspended during the fasting period to enable them to have sufficient time to participate in Ramadan activities in their respective places to get the benefits of the month.

He said that full preparations for the hajj would resume after the fasting to actualise the success of the operation and ensure that intending pilgrims were well-prepared for the spiritual journey to the holy land of Saudi Arabia.

According to him, the board is determined to ensure that intending pilgrims get the rudiments of hajj performance in order to have value for the money paid to perform all-important the religious obligation.

“As usual, the second phase of the orientation exercise holding this weekend will be conducted in seven languages by Islamic scholars due to the peculiar nature of the FCT and it will begin by 8 a.m. each day.

“The orientation exercise that is being conducted in phases will enable the intending pilgrims to get proper enlightenment on the hajj rites.

“It will also allow them to be enlightened on the guidelines and the new policies introduced for this year’s hajj by the Saudi authorities and National Hajj Commission of Nigeria. (NAHCON),” he said.

The spokesperson said that intending pilgrims, who had yet to return their completed application forms or submit their international passports, should do so.

This, he said, would enable the board to fast track the process of obtaining their travel documents before the commencement of their movement to Saudi Arabia.
