I am ready to implement new national minimum wage – Gov. Idris pledges

Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, says, he is ready to implement the new national minimum wage of N70,000 for all workers in the state.

Dr. Idris spoke in Birnin Kebbi on Friday when the leadership of the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, paid him a courtesy call at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

According to the Governor, the recent campaign of calumny sponsored by some retrogressive elements on the alleged non payment of the new national minimum wage,  was inconsequential to the policy thrust of his administration to improve the quality of life of Kebbi people.

He explained that even the Federal Government which approved the new wage was yet to commence  payment  until modalities have been finalised.

Kauran Gwandu said no acts of mischief will deter his administration from its unwavering commitment of taking Kebbi State to greater heights.

Dr. Idris renewed his earlier pledge that he would immediately commence implementation as soon as the template to do so was delivered to the state government.

He affirmed that,  when ready, the state Council of the NLC and his govenrment would dialogue to chart the best course of action for implementation instantaneous.

The Governor emphasized that the annual development levy of N500 being implemented since the defunct Sokoto, was the meagre amount deducted from workers’ salaries as allowed by law.

“Since my time as NUT Chairman  and for the 32 years I spent in the civil service,  I have paid such levy, this is not a new thing”, he said.

“The deductions for all the workers in the state only amouted to N11 million”,

“I am appealing to the NLC not to allow  mischief makers to mislead them or distort facts to tarnish the image of the government”,

“I still belong to the labour, my roots are there, we will continue to be equal partners in the development of Kebbi State, to excel and prosper”, Comrade Nasir Idris remarked.

On the new state secretariat complex, the governor revealed that  about 90 per cent of the project has been completed, saying, “it is aimed at bringing all ministries, departments and agencies under one roof and bolstering service delivery”.

Speaking earlier, the state NLC Chairman. Comrade Murtala Usman said the visit was to show appreciation to Dr. Idris for being the most labour friendly  and workers’ Governor in the country.

He also commended Comrade Nasir Idris  for appointing two labour leaders into his administration as permanent secretaries.

The Chairman further acknowledged the massive infrastructural development recorded in the last one year in Kebbi under the Kauran Gwandu administration.

He commended the Governor for the success of the 2024 Hajj exercise both in Nigeria and in Saudi Arabia, the best arrangement nationwide.
