Idris’ wife empowers 600 Kebbi youths, women to be self-reliant

The Wife of Kebbi Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Idris, on Thursday, empowered 600 women and youths in Jaga Local Government Area (LGA) of the state with different skills and start-up kits to become self-reliant.

The empowerment was facilitated through her pet project, known as Hajiya Idris’ Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation.

The beneficiaries underwent a two-month training on different business skills.

In a speech while distributing the items, Idris said that she was encouraged and supported by her husband to embark on the programme to enable the women to engage in profitable ventures for self-reliance.

“The scheme will encompass all the 21 LGAs of the state but I have started with Jega in view of the position of the town to the economic development of our dear state,” she said.

She advised the beneficiaries to be committed and utilise the items given to them to attain the target objective.

“Cost of living is now enormous. The burden is more on men and husbands, women must endeavour to engage in economic ventures to assist their husbands in the family upkeep.

“This is the essence of the skill acquisition training to improve the wellbeing of women through trade and commerce.

“Gov. Nasir Idris holds Jega in high esteem as manifested in his consistent support and care for the people of the area.

“Jega is the commercial hub of Kebbi, therefore, the rumour circulating about the governor with regards to Jega is untrue.

“Disregard it, my husband is a lover of Jega and Jega people,” she said.

The governor’s wife urged residents of the area to remain law abiding, loyal, supportive and cooperative to the governor and his administration and pray fervently for his success.

Earlier, the Traditional Ruler of Jega, “Sarkin Kabin Jega”, Alhaji Muhammad Arzika-Bawa, commended the wife of the governor for choosing Jega to launch the programme on skill acquisition training to boost the economy of families.

The Chairman of Jega LGA, Alhaji Shehu Umar, described the town as the hub of trade and commerce in the state.

Umar said that the governor was providing the necessary assistance to boost its economy.

The beneficiaries, who trained in cosmetology, shoe-making, catering, make-up, and tailoring, among others, were given N30,000 cash each, apart from the business kits.
