Insecurity: Taraba CP urges residents to collaborate with police to tackle menace

By Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo

The Commissioner of Police in Taraba State, Betty Isokpan Otimenyan, has urged residents to collaborate with security agencies to tackle the state’s security challenges.

Otimenyan made the call on Tuesday in Jalingo while commissioning a newly constructed police outpost built by Road House in the Lassandi community of the State capital.

The new facility was sited on land donated by the Catholic Church, while its construction and equipping with modern facilities were undertaken by the management of Road House, a personal business brand in the State.

Represented at the event by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar F.,

the police commissioner described policing as a collective responsibility, stressing that the police depend on credible and timely information from the public to effectively combat crime.

“We must work in partnership with security agencies to address the security challenges confronting our society,” she said.

In his remarks, the Catholic Bishop of the Jalingo Diocese, Most Rev. Charles Michael Hamawa, said the church donated the land as a proactive contribution to strengthening security in the area. He praised Road House for constructing the outpost, noting that the initiative would motivate the police to discharge their constitutional duties more effectively.

The Chairman of Jalingo Local Government Council, Nura Dantsoho, also commended the Catholic Church and Road House for their support, assuring that the council would complement their efforts. He said the new outpost would significantly enhance security in the Lassandi community and its environs.

Dantsoho further lauded the state government for creating an enabling environment that encourages individuals and organizations to contribute to the state’s development, particularly in the area of security.

Explaining the motivation behind the project, a senior staff member of Road House, Emmanuel Machoko, said the outpost was built as part of the organization’s corporate social responsibility. He disclosed that plans were underway to upgrade the facility to a divisional police headquarters in the future.

Machoko added that Road House would continue to support security agencies and the state government through legitimate means to promote the growth of the state and humanity at large.

Earlier, the Taraba State Governor, Dr. Kefas Agbu, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, urged wealthy individuals and corporate organizations to emulate Road House by supporting security agencies across the state.
