Intensify clearance of insurgents in Geidam, Yunusari, Buni charges troops
Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has charged troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, to intensify clearance of insurgents in Geidam, Yunusari and Gujba local government areas.
Buni stated this in Buni Yadi on Thursday during the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Christmas luncheon with frontline troops, organised by the Sector.
The governor, represented by Alhaji Aji Bularafa, state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, enjoined the troops to step up surveillance in boarder towns to prevent infiltration of Boko Haram insurgents.
“As the insurgency is currently on the decline, there are new threats to security such as kidnapping and criminal extortion of innocent citizens in the State.
“This means that effort should be made to counter the emerging security challenges that are trying to replace the insurgency, otherwise our current effort will be an exercise in futility,” he said.
Buni pledged his administration’s commitment to supporting the troops and other security organisations in the state to deliver on their mandates.
The governor expressed his appreciation to the troops and other security operatives for the successes recorded in counter-insurgency, thereby making Yobe one of the safest states in the North-East.
He congratulated the Sector’s Commander, Brig.-Gen. Marcel Ejike, on his recent promotion to Maj.-Gen., noting that the elevation was a reflection of Ejike’s dedication and commitment to duty.

In his remarks, Ejike said the luncheon was an avenue to bring officers and men at the front line together for a merry making.
“It is also an avenue for commanders and officers to interact freely with troops.
“This kind of laudable gesture which emanated from the sterling leadership qualities of the COAS is also aimed at motivating the troops as well as enhancing comradeship among personnel,” he said.
The commander thanked the COAS for his unwavering support to the sector and entrenching professionalism and regimentation in the army.
