Jigawa Tanker Explosion Death Toll Hits 105
About 105 people have been confirmed dead after a fuel tanker exploded and raged on for nearly four hours in Majiya, Taura Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa State on Tuesday night.
Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the deaths and said about 55 people have been hospitalised from sustaining injuries caused by the incident.
“As I am talking to you now, the casualty figure is about 105 and the number of injured is 55 as against the 50 earlier confirmed,” The Punch quoted Adam.
The driver of the tanker, who was on his way to Nguru, Yobe State, was said to have lost control of the fuel tanker near Khadjia University.
Zagazola Makama, a journalist covering the Lake Chad region, stated the tanker exploded at 11:45 pm on Tuesday and raged until 3:15 am on Wednesday.

The victims will be buried on Wednesday. Some of them were charred beyond recognition in the images FIJ saw.
On Wednesday morning, another fuel tanker exploded along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The tanker was said to have overturned after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
He was said to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall. While some individuals sustained injuries, it was yet to be determined whether there were fatalities at press time.
