Kebbi State Governor’s Two-Year Security Initiative: A Comprehensive Report May 2023 – May 2025

The Kebbi State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has implemented a comprehensive security initiative over the past two years (May 2023 – May 2025), significantly bolstering the state’s security apparatus and enhancing the safety and security of its citizens. 

The initiative has focused on equipping security forces and establishing permanent security bases across the state.  Key highlights include:

Equipment and Vehicle Procurement:

November 18, 2024:  A substantial investment in the state’s security forces, providing the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Civil Defence Corps with a fleet of vehicles of various makes and models, 100 motorcycles, and modern communication gadgets.  This upgrade significantly enhanced their operational capabilities.

March 12, 2024: Four Toyota Hilux vehicles were allocated to security agencies. Three were provided to the Nigerian Army, and one to the Mobile Police.

December 10, 2023: Twenty-six vehicles, comprising Toyota Land Cruisers and Hilux jeeps, were donated to the Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence, and Vigilante groups to strengthen their capacity to address insecurity challenges.

December 13, 2023: 730 brand new motorcycles were commissioned for distribution to Vigilante groups across the state, further empowering local security efforts and enhancing their responsiveness.

Establishment of Permanent Security Bases:

The administration has prioritized the establishment of permanent security bases in strategic locations across the state to enhance security presence and response times.  New bases have been established in:

* Malekachi Village, Zuru Emirate

* Danummaru Village, Zuru Emirate

* Garin Hausawa Village, Zuru Emirate

* Tudunbichi, Zuru Emirate

* Dirindaji, Sakaba Local Government, Zuru Emirate

* Ribah Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Zuru Emirate

* Koko, Gwandu Emirate

* Augie, Argungu Emirate

Support for Local Vigilante Groups:

Recognizing the crucial role of local vigilante groups in maintaining security, the Kebbi State Government, on November 14, 2024, provided essential operational gadgets to groups in the following Local Government Areas: Argungu, Arewa, Augie, Danko/Wasagu, Suru, Kalgo, Koko/Besse, Shanga, Yauri, Sakaba, Maiyama, Argungu, Dandi, Bunza, and Bagudo.  This support has strengthened community-based security initiatives.

The investment in equipment, vehicles, and the establishment of permanent security bases, coupled with the support provided to local vigilante groups, demonstrates a multifaceted approach to addressing security challenges in the state.
