The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the successful release of another female Prospective Corps Member and the bus driver who were previously kidnapped in Zamfara State while en route to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year.
This brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) released to five, with efforts ongoing to secure the remaining three individuals still in captivity.
The Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, conveyed the gratitude of the Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, to the security agents for their relentless efforts in securing the release of the PCMs.
The NYSC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the welfare and safety of all Corps Members under its care. Neptune Prime had previously detailed the abduction of the NYSC members by suspected terrorists as they journeyed to camp in Zamfara State in August 2023.
The group, traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State to Sokoto State, was ambushed by the assailants, resulting in the kidnapping of 11 corps members and the driver.
Three of the corps members managed to escape during the attack. In October, NYSC had confirmed the rescue of one of the abducted female Prospective Corps Members, but unfortunately, there are still at least four individuals remaining in captivity.
