Kwara Church attack, Brig.-Gen.’s killing, others aim to destabilise Nigeria – Northern CAN

The Northern chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the rising wave of insecurity across the country, describing recent incidents as painful reminders of the severe challenges confronting the citizens and security personnel.

The association expressed deep sorrow over the recent attack on a Christ Apostolic Church in Kwara, which left some worshippers killed and several abducted during the violent incident.

It also condemned the killing of a senior military officer, a Brig.-Gen. in Borno, by ISWAP terrorists, as well as the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi.

In a statement on Wednesday in Kaduna, the Chairman of Northern CAN, Rev. Joseph Hayab, said the association stood in full solidarity with the victims, their families, and the affected communities during this difficult period.

He said that the pain and trauma experienced by the families who had lost their loved ones or have children in captivity cannot be overstated, given the severity of the incidents.

Hayab stressed that Northern CAN was praying for comfort for the bereaved, divine healing for the injured, and the safe return of all abducted persons across the country.

While commending the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, the association warned that the resurgence of terror attacks appears to be a deliberate attempt to further destabilise the nation.

He urged the military not to allow the incidents to dampen their morale but to remain focused and resolute in ongoing security operations nationwide.

Hayab called on the new security chiefs and troops to intensify their operations and demonstrate renewed determination to defeat insurgents, bandits, and other criminal networks threatening peace.

He further appealed to the Federal Government to redouble efforts in securing schools, worship centres, and vulnerable communities facing repeated threats from criminal groups.

According to him, Nigerians expect decisive action to ensure that those behind the heinous crimes were arrested and prosecuted, giving the victims confidence that justice would be served.

The Northern CAN also condemned the attacks in their entirety, describing them as unacceptable acts of evil that must not be allowed to fester or spread further.

The association called for stronger collaboration between the security agencies, state governments, and community structures to prevent additional tragedies across the nation.
