Amid tears, the remains of the late Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Ibn Grema, who died on Friday, was laid to rest in the ’emir’s palace’ of Sabon Garin Nangere, Yobe State.
Muhammad, who died at age 73, was buried beside past monarchs (emirs) from the Tikau Emirate Council.
The funeral prayers were led by the Chief Imam of the Tikau Emirate Council, Shaikh Adamu Mohammed, in the palace at 4:35pm in accordance with Islamic rites.
In attendance were the Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, Secretary to the State Government Baba Mallam Wali, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ciroma Buba Mashio, Senator representing Yobe South (Zone B) Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomoi, emirs of Bade, Damaturu, Katagum, Kaltungo, Gujba, Machina, Jajere, Fune, Ngelzerma and other top government dignitaries.
He survived by three wives, 23 childrens and grandchildren.
Tikau emirate was one of the 12 emirs created in Yobe state, by late Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, after the creation of the state in 1991.
He succeeded his late father, Abubakar Grema on 25th July, 2001.
The late emir, was the Principal of GSS Nangere and District Head of Sabon Garin Nangere then emir of Tikau. He ruled between 2001 to 2024.
Hundreds of residents thronged the palace amid tears to catch a final glimpse of the remains of the monarch.
