The National Museum Jos Zoological Garden welcomed two young male lions yesterday, marking a triumphant return to their ancestral home. The lions, whose parents were taken from Jos zoo to the Presidential Wildlife Conservation in Abuja as part of a conservation exchange program years ago, have finally come full circle.
Zoo Manager Miss Mary Oheagbu and her staff were overjoyed to receive the majestic creatures, beaming with excitement as they took delivery of the lions. A brief handing-over ceremony was held within the zoo premises before the lions were introduced to their new home, met with jubilation from the zoo staff and visitors.
According to Miss Oheagbu, the return of the lions is a significant boost to the zoo’s collection and is expected to attract a surge in visitors. “We are thrilled to have our lions back home, and we believe their presence will not only enhance the zoo’s appeal but also contribute to the conservation of this magnificent species,” she said.
The two young males, now safely settled in their enclosure, are already drawing attention from visitors, who are eager to catch a glimpse of the majestic felines. Their return marks a successful conservation effort and a testament to the zoo’s commitment to preserving wildlife.
