The Presidency of Madagascar announced on Tuesday the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of the country’s bicameral Parliament, in a surprise move that has sparked political tensions.
The decision was made official through a presidential decree which stated: “The National Assembly is dissolved, in accordance with the provisions of Article 60 of the Constitution.”

According to local media reports, the announcement came while the National Assembly was in session.
Notably, it occurred as members of the Assembly were reportedly gathering signatures to convene an extraordinary session aimed at impeaching the head of state.
The timing of the dissolution had raised questions among political observers about potential constitutional conflicts and the stability of Madagascar’s democratic institutions.
