Malami, ADC behind political violence in Kebbi: A threat to State’s legacy of tranquility

Kebbi State has been celebrated as a bastion of peace and political harmony since its creation, where diverse political actors coexist without rancor or bitterness. From the onset of democratic governance, successive leaders – Abubakar Musa Garkuwan Yauri, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero, Alhaji Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, and the incumbent Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) have upheld the culture of tolerance and unity.

Governor Nasir Idris has gone further to strengthen this tradition by uniting all former governors of Kebbi State under one political family, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His firm belief that development cannot thrive without peace has guided his leadership style, earning him widespread respect as a peace-loving leader, focused on transforming the state in all sectors.

Unfortunately, this enviable record of peaceful politics and politicking, is now under attack following the recent acts of violence and vandalism orchestrated by members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), allegedly under the influence of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.

Malami, who owes his political rise to the APC, has now abandoned the party and joined ADC in what many see as a desperate bid to satisfy personal ambition rather than uphold democratic values. His latest move has raised concerns, especially given the violent incidents that accompanied his recent visit to Kebbi State.

Hired thugs and destruction of APC Property :-

Reports confirm that the ADC entourage, allegedly led by Malami, brought in armed thugs from neighboring states. These weapons bearing hoodlums attacked the APC office in Birnin Kebbi, destroyed billboards featuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Nasir Idris, tore APC posters, and even fired gunshots, a brazen attempt to intimidate and incite chaos.

Shockingly, this happened under the watch of the former Minister of Justice who, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is expected to uphold the law. Instead, Malami appears to have abandoned law and order but resorted to lawlessness.

False Claims of Condolence Visit

While ADC claimed the visit was on condolence, the presence of thugs bearing dangerous weapons tells a different story. No genuine mourner comes armed with guns and intent to destroy. Residents confirmed that unlike previous visits, this particular trip was marred by provocative statements and threats against APC leaders, culminating in acts of violence.

In stark contrast, other political leaders who visited for condolences did so peacefully without creating disorder.

No One is Above the Law

These violent acts should be condemned and a task on security agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly. Abubakar Malami must understand that immunity no longer shields him from prosecution. Any actions linked to violence or bloodshed will attract the full weight of the law.

For decades, Kebbi politics has been defined by decency and mutual respect. The recent introduction of violence by Malami and the ADC is an affront to that legacy. The people of Kebbi State will not allow the hard-earned peace and stability under Governor Nasir Idris to be jeopardized by selfish ambitions.

Kebbi remains committed to peace. Violence has no place here.
