Mangu Killings: Why we delay condolence visit to Zaria – Plateau delegation
Alhaji Sambo Mohammed, Emir of Wase led a high-powered delegation from Plateau on a condolence visit to Zazzau Emirate over the killing of wedding bound-travelers who were attacked and killed in plateau.
The visit followed an outcry by the Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Bamalli on the failure of Plateau State Government to send an official delegation to visit Zaria as well as the victims’ families.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) recalls that at least 12 travelers including the father and brother of the groom from Bassawa community in Zaria were killed during an attack in Mangu, Plateau, on June 20.
Eleven others who sustained varying degrees of injury during the attack are currently responding to treatment at a hospital in Kaduna.
Speaking during the condolence visit on Sunday, the Emir of Wase said the delegation intended to be in Zaria much more earlier but security reports advised the committee to delay the journey.
“However, we got the clearance from the security that we can come, hence the visit.
“Another delegation will make a follow-up visit for further deliberations with key stakeholders over the unfortunate incident,” he said.
Mohammed said the delegation also apologised for the delayed condolence visit.
He also disclosed that 22 people had already been arrested over the attack, stressing that the Plateau Government would ensure that “justice is served.”
Responding, Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Bamalli expressed appreciation for the visit, adding that the excuse tendered by the delegation was apt and acceptable.
He said Kaduna and Plateau States had many mutual relationships which should not be allowed to vanish by the actions of few individuals.

Yusuf added that the victims were the bread winners for their respective families and urged the traditional rulers to prevail on the government to ensure that the families of the victims receive adequate interventions.
