NACTAL Pushes For Taskforce Against Human Trafficking In Sokoto

The umbrella organisation of Nigerian non-governmental organizations engaged in advocacy and campaign for children’s rights, anti-human trafficking, human rights abuse and child labour with some 220 member organizations in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, Network Against Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) has organized stakeholders meeting in Sokoto with the aim of establishing a Taskforce in the State. 

Addressing the gathering on the importance of having a State Taskforce Against Human Trafficking, the National President of NACTAL Nigeria,  Abdulganiyu Abubakar appealed that the efforts towards halting trafficking and all forms of forced labour must be supported by all. 

Abdulganiyu, who in his presentation on the history of human trafficking, their organization’s journey and terms of reference also gave room for questions and clarification on concerns raised by stakeholders. 

While admonishing participants to embrace Taskforce Against Trafficking and Smuggling of Migrants, Abdulganiyu enumerated some of the advantages of the force to include collective monitoring and teamwork against the menace. 

Stakeholders at the meeting included  representatives of the Sultan of Sokoto, Department of State Security (DSS) Nigeria  Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Police Force, (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, media executives, Sokoto State ministry of women and childrens’ affairs, UNICEF, NACTAL and others. 

In their collective resolve, stakeholders agreed to make submission to Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu for subsequent consideration and approval of a Taskforce Against human trafficking in the State.
