Nasarawa Govt begins training of 900 corps members in cyber security

Nasarawa State Government says it has commenced the training of 915 Corps members in cybersecurity and digital forensics to tackle cyber crime in the state.

Mr Haruna Sani, Director General, Nasarawa State Information Technology and Digital Economy Agency (NASITDEA), disclosed this at the inauguration of the Digital Learning Centre on Thursday in Lafia.

The Digital Learning Centre was established by the Renewed Hope  Initiative in the Office of the First Lady in collaboration with National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated the centre virtually  alongside nine others across the country.

Sani said that the centre provided the hub for the training, saying that NASITDEA would train 15 corps members every week to till December 2026.

He noted that the agency would install a cyber security laboratory in the systems at the centre to enhance the training.

The DG explained that the choice of corps members for the training was informed by their closeness to the communities, and also the need for them to benefit from the Renew Hope Initiative of the federal government.

“We are ready for the project, we are ready for everything that we need to do, and we are hoping that these young people will benefit more from this project.

“We have the cybersecurity lab, so we are going to localise it to those systems. For those who don’t have a system, they can come to our centre to use it for either phishing projects or anything that has to do with the mitigation of cyber crime.

“So, based on that, we are going to come up with internships in the centre, this internship will also support these youth to be able to get jobs online,” he said.

Sani applauded the federal government for showing commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian have the opportunity to participate in digital innovation.

He described the digital centre as a gateway to a world of knowledge and opportunity for young people to acquire the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy.

“We are particularly grateful for the unwavering support of the wife of the Governor, Hajiya Silifat Sule, and the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.

“The Renew Hope Initiative has become a beacon of hope for our communities across the nation.

” This is a hub for innovation where aspiring entrepreneurs can turn their ideas into reality.

“It is a bridge that will connect our rural communities to the global digital landscape, ensuring that no one is left behind,” he said.

Speaking virtually during the inauguration, Mr Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of NITDA,  said the agency was ready to put the nation on track to drive inclusivity for citizens on digital skills.

The inauguration had in attendance the wife of the Nasarawa governor, Hajiya Silifat Sule, the state Head of Civil Service, Abigail Waya, among others.
