The Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) has launched a free healthcare initiative that aims to benefit over 500 people in Edo State.

The Commandant of NASEME, Major General Oladele Arogundade, announced the commencement of the Maiden Medical Outreach in Etsako West Local Government Area, highlighting the army’s commitment to improving civil-military relations and giving back to its host community.

“The free medical outreach exercise organised by NASEME is for the benefit of the good people of Auchi in particular, and the entire Etsako West Local Government Area,” said Arogundade. He emphasized the program’s goal to enhance the well-being of indigent persons by providing them with easier access to quality healthcare services.

Recognizing the importance of health security, Arogundade stated, “We have realized that in as much as physical security is important, which we do our best to provide, health security is equally important for all-round well-being and productivity.”

The outreach, supported by the Irrua Specialist Hospital, includes general consultations, free eye examinations, and checks for high blood pressure, diabetes, and malaria. Medical volunteers will provide diagnosis, treatment, and necessary medications at no cost to the patients.

Dr Sebastian Oiwho, a medical consultant, highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing health threats posed by viral diseases and urged communities to maintain personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.

Marvelous Zibiri, Chairman of Etsako Local Government, expressed gratitude to NASEME for their generous gesture and encouraged the community to participate and benefit from the free medical services.

“This is a great initiative, and we appreciate NASEME for the outreach,” said Zibiri.

This programme marks a significant step in promoting health and well-being in the grassroots communities of Edo State.
