NATO chief to decide on Zelenskyy invitation to Hague summit

The decision on whether to invite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague rests with the alliance’s secretary-general, Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp said on Thursday.

“I will be very happy to host President Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian delegation in The Hague.

“It is, of course, not me as the host country, it is the Secretary-General of NATO who will decide on the invitations,” Veldkamp stated.

He made the remarks during a doorstep comment at the informal summit of NATO foreign ministers.

On Wednesday, the Italian news agency Ansa reported, citing a NATO source, that the United States was opposed to inviting Zelenskyy to the summit.

The NATO summit is scheduled to take place on June 24–25 in The Hague.

According to the Dutch Foreign Ministry, around 45 heads of state and government, 45 foreign and defense ministers, and approximately 6,000 delegation members are expected to attend, with a total attendance of about 8,500 people. (AP/NAN)
